On April 29, a special Kindergarten Registration Day will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for families to stop by their child’s new school to meet with the teachers and staff and to make sure everything has been provided that is needed to enroll.
Enrollment Information
A child must be five years old on or before August 31 to register for kindergarten for the coming year. Parents/Legal guardians must present an official birth certificate and immunization records to school officials. Birth certificates may be obtained from the Register of Deeds office in the county of the child’s birth. The adult enrolling a child must also present a photo ID.
Parents/guardians must also show “proof of residence.” To enroll a child, parents must present two sources of documentation such as utility bills, tax bills, deed of trust, rent receipt, or any document which clearly proves current resident status. Military families living on base may present a letter from base housing as proof of residence. Parents must enroll their kindergarten child in the school district in which they live.
North Carolina law requires that each kindergarten child receive a health assessment and his/her shots. The health assessment must be documented on an official North Carolina Health Assessment Report form, which is available through the school district, the Wayne County Health Department, and most pediatricians’ offices. If needed, parents/legal guardians will be given a health assessment form during registration which must be completed by the family physician and returned to the school by the first day of classes on Monday, August 29.
